Omexom Infrastructure starts Contact Energy BESS project

Omexom New Zealand’s Building Capital Solutions BU (Infrastructure Services Perimeter) secured a contract with Contact Energy to supply four 33kV switchrooms and a control room for the Glenbrook Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project.
This project is part of Contact Energy’s push to support New Zealand’s renewable energy transition by increasing grid stability, and enabling better integration of renewable generation. Once complete, this project will provide enough electricity to meet peak demand over winter for 44,000 homes for over two hours.
The switchrooms and control room have been custom-designed using two 40-foot shipping containers, providing a modular and scalable solution. These rooms will house key electrical and control equipment, ensuring safe and reliable operation of the BESS system.
This Thursday morning, we celebrated the opening of a new construction yard in Penrose, Auckland, where the rooms will be fabricated, fitted out, and rigorously tested before being transported to site. This facility strengthens our ability to deliver high-quality prefabricated solutions, reducing onsite installation time and improving efficiency.
This milestone reinforces Omexom’s commitment to delivering innovative infrastructure solutions to support New Zealand’s energy transition. We’re excited to get started!
