Omexom making great strides in Benmore HVDC work

Omexom New Zealand is extremely pleased with the exceptional work done by our team on the half-life refurbishment of the massive 30-year-old transformers at the equally massive Benmore HVDC site.   This project is critical given the role that the Benmore site plays in the country’s power transmission system, particularly in transferring electricity between the South and North Islands.

The Benmore team showed outstanding technical expertise and coordination throughout the project, navigating the large-scale and complex systems, in addition to operational constraints with confidence.  Their ability to complete this work ahead of schedule is a testament to their efficiency and experience, which has resulted in positive feedback from our client Transpower, and Hitachi, who were working with the Omexom team at Benmore to replace the bushings.

The successful refurbishment of the transformers secures the long-term reliability and performance of the HVDC system, which is essential for maintaining a stable and secure power supply across New Zealand.  This is the third of four phases to be refurbished during this multi-year project.

This work supports our commitment to delivering sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure for the future.   Omexom’s contribution will have lasting benefits for New Zealand’s energy security, ensuring that we can continue to meet the growing demand for electricity in a cost-effective and reliable manner.
